Superintendent Dr. Noguchi, board trustees, and Tuolumne Principal Anthony Arista are joined by Tuolumne TK-8 and district staff in a grand celebration

Modesto City Schools is celebrating the recent unveiling of state-of-the-art facilities at Tuolumne TK-8 School. The school held a grand celebration in the new gymnasium, marking a transformative moment for students and staff.

As the district's only TK-8 school, Tuolumne now includes features that will redefine what it means to learn, play, and grow in Modesto. This includes a new gymnasium, expanded front office, new drop-off and pick-up area, additional parking, and other renovations.

“We're excited to introduce these incredible improvements at Tuolumne TK-8," said Dr. Sara Noguchi, Superintendent of Modesto City Schools. "These upgrades reflect our dedication to creating high-quality, innovative learning environments for our students. I’m grateful for the community’s support and eager to see how these new spaces will elevate learning opportunities for our students."

The celebration, led by Principal Anthony Arista, included an engaging performance by teacher Ron Boren, energetic cheer by Tuolumne Tiger cheerleaders, and other festivities.

The new gymnasium is the first in the district since 2010 and the only junior high gym constructed in more than 30 years. It features basketball and volleyball courts, a stage for performances, a cafeteria, and a fully equipped kitchen, making Tuolumne the only school in the district where elementary students have direct access to a gym. The new, modern facility levels the playing field and expands athletic opportunities for younger learners.

The project also includes a redesigned school entrance, improved traffic flow for pick-up and drop-off, and secure fencing to enhance safety and accessibility across the campus.

"We've worked diligently to create a welcoming, modern environment that supports our students' academic growth and overall well-being," said Anthony Arista, Principal of Tuolumne TK-8 School. "Our school community is very proud to have these new facilities."

Building on last year’s additions of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) building and Solar Outdoor Learning Environment (SOLE), Tuolumne TK-8 continues to advance its commitment to 21st-century education. The STEAM facility offers nearly 5,000 square feet of indoor space and an additional 1,300 square feet of outdoor learning space. Funded by Measures D & E, this facility is designed to cultivate student creativity and innovation.

Tuolumne’s SOLE structure, valued at $950,000, was funded by the Board of Education for capital projects. The Turlock Irrigation District provided additional support through $68,000 in rebates for the solar shade structure, enhancing the school’s sustainability efforts.

These transformative projects were made possible through the generous support of Modesto residents and funding from Measure D & E.
